GRACE AKI is a New York City-based playwright from Georgia. From Japanese and American Southern roots, Grace has a taste for
many cultures. She began dancing at 3, doing voiceovers for radio at 4, and by 5 years old became enthralled in storytelling on stage. PRESS & PRAISE FOR GRACE’S ONE WOMAN SHOW, TO FREE A MOCKINGBIRD
”Grace has this knack of storytelling where she weaves in sad moments of her life with bits of humor. To me, that’s a gift to be able to do that and from what I can gather is that she has learned to cling to hope and love in spite of the dark moments. “
— Review: To Free A Mockingbird, MARIA ROCHELLE
“To Free A Mockingbird is a vulnerable and daring piece, filled with Grace’s effortless humor and honesty. And her costuming is simply fabulous!“
“Get ready to ride an emotional roller coaster. One minute you are crying from laughing so hard and the next moment your eyes are filled with tears because life can be so hard to good people. I would recommend this show to anyone who wants to witness how a wonderfully funny and talented girl faced some very difficult moments and came out strong and loving life to the fullest.”
“Grace is raw; but elegant like Ceviche not barbaric like Carpaccio.“
“This is her story and maybe yours as well. To Free a Mockingbird is a combination of storytelling and stand-up, with heart.”
— Theater Best Best: Atlanta Fringe Fest Edition, ARTS ATL
“Grace takes us along on this emotional and psychological journey toward embracing love, life, and all the things it throws at it. All while making you cry tears of laughter and sadness. Beautifully told story. “
“I watched this as if I was experiencing it myself. Grace’s ability to tell stories is effortless and charming. Bring a box of tissues.”
“No one can tell a story like Grace. She is a driving force onstage and a joy to behold. Using comedy and truth as her weapons, she cuts to the heart of the matter very quickly. To Free A Mockingbird was a deeply moving and delightful experience.”
